I draw the webcomic Manly Guys Doing Manly Things and work on cartoons you might see on TV sometimes.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
WhoawhoawhoaWHOA. Who is the artist and/or character underneath that pic of Flynngene there?
The sketches are by Glen Keane, the character is named Bastion and was one of the earlier designs for the male lead in the movie. There were also proto-Flynns who were more middle-Eastern/South Asian looking, sort of Fantasy-Persian, Johnny Depp, and Jack Black-y.
I dunno, it seems to me that in a number of media, when a woman meets her “dream guy” it’s often Fabio beefcake, which is a pain because for once I’d like to see more recognition of different sexual tastes in fictional characters!
Go to google, search “romantic comedy” and count how many images it takes before you see a big jacked up Fabio lookalike Superman beefcake. I’m gonna say Gerard Butler doesn’t count because he’s pretty average when he’s not actively trying to be a Spartan King. Maybe Brendan Fraser in George of the Jungle. Either way, in American cinema at least those types of characters in movies and TV are more “the exception that proves the rule”.
More often than not when the girl ends up with the Sylvester Stallone beefcake character, it’s in an action movie intended for male audiences. In which case the fantasy is “be the jacked up guy, get the hot girl” not “be the hot girl, get the jacked up guy”.
Kim Bastion designs seem...Flynn’s final look. Flynn came off too generic looking
No It’s Jin Kim. Who is always being mis attributed as Glen Keane. He’s...Keane. The “jack...
Oh wow, I’d so go...middle-Eastern proto-Flynn!
