Went to a Mad Men party last night and tried to do that flick eye makeup even though I normally have no luck with that style. Then I took a bad photo of it at a weird angle because my eyes are so deep sunken and hooded that my eyelids are virtually nonexistant unless I go out of my way to show them off.
It lasted through the whole party without smudging or fading at all! I was really impressed. Urban Decay primer, Urban decay Skimp for the eyelid colour, Bust for the crease (though if I did it again I’d probably use something lighter like Sin or Missionary), and Zephyr for the brow bone and inner corner of the eye. Used an Avon glimmersticks pencil to do the line over the eyelid and Make Up Forever liquid liner for the flick. Plus some Benefit Erasepaste to make my eyes seem a little less hollow around the bottom. Not that you can really see any of that in this photo.
I think my problem getting the eyeliner to work right usually has to do with trying to do the whole thing in liquid liner. The pencil seems much easier to control on my eyelid. My other big revelation was ” start from the point of the flick and draw towards the eye, not the other way around”.
My other issue with the look has always been that the whole point of it is to make your eyes look wide and bright, but mine are deep and hooded enough that people sometimes think I have dark irises even though they’re grey. The light eyeshadow over the tear duct and erase paste on the dark circles really helped on that front. (For anyone else with sunken eyes who finds themselves invited to a dapper 60’s party)
