I’m courting the idea that when Daggett was young he looked fairly normal save a couple quirks, but every time he was greivously injured and had to regenerate a majority of his soft tissue, he ended up a little bigger, harder, faster, stronger, and less human.
So over the course of his volatile teenage years he essentially went from a quiet skinny kid who got bullied a lot to an angry testosterone charged tank ready to strike out at anyone he felt victimized by, stuck in an arms race of violent behaviour because he wasn’t mature enough to realize that just because you can act out all of your revenge fantasies doesn’t mean you should.
Until eventually he realizes that trying to be the biggest fish is ruining his life, that he’s really just making more of a target out of himself and that the harder he lashes out the more difficult it becomes for him to go back to his family and friends, or really function in society at all. So he accepts that he has to take responsibility for his actions and start mending bridges if he ever wants to be happy again.
This was basically what his backstory has always been, only difference being before he was just smaller to start with and regenerated a little bigger and stronger every time. I feel like it adds something if being a weird giant grey, carmine-haired, white-eyed clunker was ultimately his own fault. Plus it kind of makes more sense in the long run that way.
