I do not understand eating disorders, at all.
First of all, I find it to be incredibly superficial. Why do you just intend to be skinny? Who really cares if you’re wearing size 1 or size 10? Is that all that matters to you? Just to look “hot”? Newsflash, you’re not a temperature. How about trying to be healthy instead of just skinny?
Second, I find people who have eating disorders to be very uneducated. When you go without food, the first thing your body goes for is the muscles - not the fat. So, by not eating/throwing up everything you eat you’re just weakening your muscles and not “getting skinny.”
I agree that there are some people in the world who are terribly overweight, and yes, they do need to lose weight. But not to be skinny, to be healthy.
Something a lot of people do not understand is that there are all different types of bodies, bone structures, heights, etc. that define how much we should weigh. Let’s take me and former friend, for example. She was a few inches taller than me, and incredibly more skinny. I am more curvy, and a little shorter. She has always weighed anywhere from ten to twenty pounds less than me. I never let it bug me though because we have different body types. Weight is not standard. It is different for every single person.
Also, I just cannot get over the fact that people just say, “Oh, I won’t eat so I can be skinny!” when they could do a quick Google search and discover that - newsflash - by not eating, you are endangering your health and it will make you look skinny, yeah, but not attractively skinny. Really, before you decide to stop eating, look up “eating disorder” in Google Images. You don’t want to look like them, huh? Because you care so much about how you look.
If you are so damn desperate to get skinny, use your brain and stop eating such crap food. You say you’re gaining weight? Well, if you’re a teenager who lives off junk food, then hell yeah, you are. You’re growing, you should be gaining weight, not losing it.
I make a point about junk food here. I see so many people who stuff their faces with unhealthy food and turn their nose up at a nice salad, and then go and complain about being “fat.” If you want to be skinny, you have to exercise and eat healthy.
Bottom line: eating disorders baffle me, and you should strive to be healthy and not skinny.

what
i know it’s in opinion, but it’s one of those things you can’t understand unless it’s affected you first-hand. ;o
Saying you don’t understand why people have eating disorders is like saying you don’t understand why people can have head colds. “I don’t have a particular affliction at this moment and therefor can’t possibly be expected to wrap my head around the idea that someone else does”. It’s not a matter of “oh I’m vain and wish I was skinny”, it is an all-consuming disgust with your body that overpowers logic and reason to the point you’re willing to risk killing yourself to change it. That overpowers logic and reason even if you’re a smart person who’s well-versed in the dietary science behind why it’s a bad idea that doesn’t work, because you’re just that desparate to change and any difference you are making never feels like enough..
