I draw the webcomic Manly Guys Doing Manly Things and work on cartoons you might see on TV sometimes.

Thoughts on the Spider-Woman variant cover controversy?

They hired an acclaimed raunchy porn artist and he drew them a porn-y cover like yeah I know people are trying to say “Spider-Man just poses like that it’s not porny” but like, the first image result for Milo Manara is a girl in one of his porn comics striking basically the same pose.

Like, people can fight all they want about it, it’s a fact he drew one of his stock porn poses and coloured it red to say it was the costume fabric.

That aside, I think it’s generally a subpar Milo Manara drawing, the head is awkwardly placed on the neck with unappealing proportions to the features, the hair isn’t draping attractively, the colour seems rushed and almost scratchy compared to his other stuff and it’s just generally below the quality bar anyone who’s familiar with his work would probably expect to see. I almost feel like it looks like it was a rush job he did as a favour or because he had to replace a water heater ASAP or something. Although in his more recent stuff he seems to be really into giving his women almost… like… ape-ish faces with extremely small, flush noses and large mouths so maybe that’s just what he’s into these days

I mean I guess he’s always been all about those little stylized dot noses, but it feels like now he’s balancing his faces in a way that makes them appear disproportionate in a way that doesn’t seem flattering, the way they used to.

Granted I’ve only got the same passing familiarity with Manara that anyone who grew up reading heavy metal and the occasional volume of Sandman does, so maybe he’s always drawn weird chimp faces and I wasn’t paying enough attention before.

A protector!? Do I NEED that? D:

You don’t *need* it persay but tablet screens are pretty prone to getting scratched up and once you get one scratch every line you draw is just gonna exacerbate the situation. I’ve already scratched the screen protector I got in October up enough I’m considering replacing it.

Any thoughts on the difference in size going from your Companion to a 22” or 24” Cintiq?

I used to work on an old 12UX Cintiq and absolutely hated it, like the resolution was so obnoxiously small and there was such a wide border of unpredictable space around the edges you couldn’t draw in I preferred an Intuos tablet to wrestling with it. But the resolution of the 13HD screen is a completely different beast. I have no qualms with it and never feel cramped (which is my issue with the surface pro). It’s not just a portable alternative for when I don’t have the luxury of accessing a real workstation, it IS a real work station. The only issue I run into is not having the dual screen to keep references on, but that’s mostly a matter of me being spoiled and pampered by my work setup. It’s also nice because you can change the orientation of the page from portrait to landscape by tilting the screen how you want to work on it, so you can basically fill the entire screen with a standard size comic page at a resolution similar to the size of a sheet of paper and see everything while you lay it out.

My street cred would be in utter ruin :(

I think it would make you super internet famous.

I wish Rocom would put his facebook video reviews of oatmeal up on youtube so I could share them with the internet.
